Enhancing the State's Accident and Incident Investigation (AIG) Capabilities (former Establishing and Operating an Independent Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation Authority)

You will gain knowledge on the key aspects for the establishment and effective operation of an independent aircraft accident and incident investigation authority as well as the ability to contribute to your State’s efforts to enhance its investigation capabilities. It is developed to help States comply with Annex 13 to the Chicago Convention and strengthen all critical elements of the investigation system, making optimum use of available resources. It is also developed to enhance cooperation between all relevant authorities and industry stakeholders in the area of accident and incident investigation.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Explain key legal, organisational and operational aspects of the establishment and operation of an investigation authority
  • Increase your State’s capability to adopt and implement the strategies, policies, procedures and actions needed to establish, effectively operate and strengthen an independent investigation authority

      This course is recommended for management and personnel of investigation authorities, personnel from the civil aviation authorities and the aviation industry (including air operators, air navigation service providers and aerodrome operators) that interact and cooperate with the State’s investigation authority for the notification and investigation of aircraft accidents and incidents, as well as Government officials involved in investigation-related legislation.
