Flight tests are carried out regularly by either CAAS Safety Inspectors or Authorised Flight Examiners (employees of an organisation appointed by CAAS) to assess the competency of pilots holding a Singapore flight crew licence.

There are two categories of Flight Examiners:

1. An Authorised Flight Examiner (AFE) conducts flight tests on behalf of CAAS.

    

2. A Senior Authorised Flight Examiner (SAFE) conducts surveillance checks on AFEs to ensure safety oversight. All SAFEs are also concurrently appointed as AFEs and carry out AFE duties.
