IAASM-SAA Aviation Medicine for Medical Examiners and Assessors Refresher Course

You will acquire updated competencies to serve as a medical examiner and assessor for Class 1, 2 and 3 Medical Assessments for pilots and air traffic controllers and get updated on the latest advances in aviation medicine and other clinical specialties. This course puts together experts in the fields of Aviation Medicine and other clinical specialties and employs substantive experiential learning with case studies and practicums in aviation physiology and flight simulators. This course is offered in collaboration with International Academy of Aviation and Space Medicine (IAASM), an expert body with whom the ICAO Aviation Medicine Section consult for medical provision matters.

Operational Aviation Medicine

  • Crew rest, fatigue and fatigue risk mitigation 

Who Should Attend

This course is recommended if you are:

  • Registered physicians aspiring to be appointed as a medical examiner, medical assessor or airline doctor
  • General practitioners, doctors in hospital practice and health professionals with an interest in applied aviation medicine 

Prerequisites

  • Participants should have a medical degree such as the MBBS, MBBCh, MD or equivalent and are fully registered physicians to practice medicine in their country.
  • Participants should have attended the ICAO Standardized Training Programme: IAASM-SAA Postgraduate Certificate in Aviation Medicine for Medical Examiners and Assessors or equivalent course.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English language is required for the activities and assessments in this course. These include the group discussions and individual mastery tests.
