ICAO Standardized Training Package: IAASM-SAA Postgraduate Certificate in Aviation Medicine for Medical Examiners and Assessors

You will be equipped with the competencies to be a medical examiner and assessor for Class 1, 2 and 3 Medical Assessments for pilots and air traffic controllers. The curriculum is designed based on the competency-based training framework published in the ICAO Manual of Civil Aviation Medicine (Doc 8984). It employs substantive experiential learning with case studies and practicums in aviation physiology and flight simulators. This course is in collaboration with International Academy of Aviation and Space Medicine (IAASM), an expert body with whom the ICAO Aviation Medicine Section consult for medical provision matters.

  • Perform effective licensing medical examinations
  • Evaluate medical documents critically to determine their relevance and adequacy

  • Registered physicians aspiring to be appointed as a medical examiner, medical assessor or airline doctor
  • General practitioners, doctors in hospital practice and health professionals with an interest in applied aviation medicine 

Prerequisites

  • Participants should have a medical degree such as the MBBS, MBBCh, MD or equivalent and are fully registered physicians to practice medicine in their country.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English language is required for the activities and assessments in this course. These include the group discussions and individual mastery tests.
