CAAS launches first-ever Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel course
Singapore Aviation Academy (SAA), the training arm of CAAS, launched the Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel (ATSEP) course on 2 – 9 October 2018. ATSEP play a significant role in the safe operations of Singapore’s air navigation systems. They are responsible for the installation, operation and maintenance of communications, navigation, surveillance / air traffic management (CNS/ATM) systems. In the past, ATSEP were trained mainly on the job. The ATSEP course marked the first structured training for ATSEP in Singapore. .
The ATSEP course is the result of a collaboration between CAAS and Temasek Polytechnic (TP). This collaboration enables the development of a structured pathway for ATSEP training and competency based on International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)’s ATSEP training requirements. With this new development, it will augment the on-the-job training that ATSEP typically undergo and better enhance the competencies of ATSEP in a structured manner.
Over the next 5 years, some 200 ATSEP from the local aviation community will be trained. The series of ATSEP courses that will be rolled out will qualify ATSEP to further specialise in any one of the Communication, Navigation and Surveillance/ Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) systems, and will include ATSEP Communications, ATSEP Navigation, ATSEP Surveillance and ATSEP Data Processing.

The next run of the course will be held on 2 – 9 April 2019. For more information on ATSEP courses, visit https://saa.caas.gov.sg.
